Gallery Florence
The gallery created in a palace of the Medici family - the powerful
and wealthy Florentine dynasty that funded the Renaissance. A comprehensive
guide to seven centuries of European painting. From Cimabue and early
masters of the Gothic school to Giotto and the International Gothic
style of Gentile da Fabriano. Excercises in perspective in the Early
Renaissance by Paolo Uccello and Piero della Francesca lead on to Filippo
Lippi and the famous pagan paintings of Botticelli. Renaissance and
High Renaissance masters Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci
are followed by the Mannerist School of Pontormo, and Parmigianino.
Northern Italian artists are represented amongst others by Mantegna,
Correggio,Carpaccio and Bellini. Later paintings by Tiziano, Caravaggio,
Canaletto and Tiepolo are displayed together with foreign masters of
the various schools such as Van der Goes, Durer, Rembrandt, Rubens and
Goya.
